Wednesday, May 31 the Spring Choir Concert was held at Northern Burlington. The program included selections such as “Imagine” by John Lennon, arr. Mac Huff, “Seasons of Love” by Jonathan Larson, arr. Roger Emerson, “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks arr. Anders & Astrom, “Lacrimosa” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arr. Ken Fleet and “Fix You” by Coldplay arr. George Chung.
The 2023 Spring Choral Concert was bittersweet as it was also the final concert for the beloved Northern Burlington Choir Director and Teacher, Mr. David Taylor. Mr. Taylor was on the job at Northern Burlington for twenty years as the Choir Director. For this special event, Northern Choir Alum were invited to attend the concert and to join the combined choirs for the final two songs, “Total Praise” by Richard Smallwood and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by Lutkin. Many of Mr. Taylor’s alumni took him up on the invitation and joined the combined choirs.
Mr. Taylor shared some stories from his long tenured career at Northern. Students made tear-filled speeches about how Mr. Taylor has been a positive influence in their lives during their high school careers. Mr. Taylor has been instrumental in getting students excited about music, whether it be in choir class, in plays and musicals, in marching band and even worked collaboratively with the choir and band programs at the middle school. He was a proactive force in assisting students to pursue choir opportunities through involvement in Tri-M, All South Jersey Choir, All State Choir and All Eastern Choir. He was wonderful in motivating students to try out and supportive to students in preparing for their try outs. Many Northern choir students participated in at least one of the programs and some participated in a multitude of them.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” – William Ward
As stated by a former student “Congratulations to Mr. Taylor on his retirement. We are happy for you and your next adventures. It is a sad day for all that will no longer hear you in the halls, see you in front of the choir, or be inspired by you in class. Northern Burlington students and parents have been privileged to have a teacher and Choir Director who has been good, superior and a great inspiration to students, fellow staff, and parents.”
